The term HS generally referred to as the Harmonized System Code that is used for both export and import process. It can be defined as the standardized method to classify any kind of trading product. Such codes are commonly used by customs authorities all over the world to identify any products that are being circulated through the process of EXIM. It generally consists of a six-digit numerical specification that is often used to classify any kind of commodity that is used by the Customs officers to levied taxes and data collections while assessing the products.

About 200 countries used such code during the entire system to export and import commodities. Not only that, but such codes are also used by international organizations, private sectors, and many others. Usually, these HS Codes are used to classify any kind of physical goods while shipping to other destined countries. It is also used to determine the rates of tariff duty and to specify the quality of the products and is used in many fields like research, collecting trade data, statistics, identify the law related to the products, etc.

The HS code is also commonly known as the hsn code. One can find such hsn code from the respective government website. At first go, to the export and import portal, one has to click on the hsn code search option. Then, a dialogue box will appear. There, one has to put the hsn code that is provided by the customs officers during the export of any items. Once done, click on the hsn code find option. The details about the products will be provided by the site. This is how one can search hsn code for the site.

These codes are used by businessmen or by any international organization that is engaged in export and import business. Other than these, such organizations can also be government or private organizations.

Now, different countries possess different kinds of HS code. The HS generally assigns only six numerical digit codes, but it is up to the concerned country who can add more numbers beside the six-digit code for their better references. The WCO often updates, modifies, and changes these codes after every five years.  These HS codes are confidential in nature. It is harmonized by the government. These codes contain the details about the product's quality, types, tariff concession, a duty levied or refund, and so on. Not only that, such HS Codes are administered by the DFAT (The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) of the respective country. 

Hence, any individual or Group of the organization both private and the government wants to enlist they are engaged with the EXIM process to need to gain the HS code before exporting any physical goods to another country. These will help them to track their shipping.
